Hi! It’s me, and it’s been awhile. It’s time I share what I’ve been up to lately: I’ve been realllllly busy giving myself a break. You should try it. Not kidding. Ready? Go.
I have been 100% off my game in preparation of and recovery from a surgical procedure. And I had to take a break from any high intensity workouts for almost a month. No spin class, no running/jumping, no lifting heavy weights, nothing aerobic. It was tough ya’ll. But I stuck to mostly long walks and very minimal, light or body weighted exercises.
Now, everyone reading already knows what happens to me when I get off track with exercise…my diet declines as well. And this time was no exception. However, I forced myself to listen to my body. I noticed it was craving more carbohydrates than usual, so (gasp!) I ate them. If I was craving something sweet, (gasp!) I ate it. If I couldn’t stand the sight of a vegetable, I pushed it aside. I didn’t go crazy or gorge myself. I just allowed myself a break. I may have gained a couple of pounds, and I know I don’t feel like my best self. But it was worth the consequences just to not feel guilty, depressed, and beat myself up about something I couldn’t indefinitely control.
If you’re in a job where you have flexibility, I highly recommend that you give yourself a break every once in awhile. If you’re not, I think you should schedule a va- (or stay-) cation to decompress. Listen to your body, rest, recuperate, and don’t get in your head about any of it. And when you’re ready — like I am today — come back, meal plan/prep, and get your workout on. I guarantee you’ll be more likely to succeed + you’ll get a whole new perspective. Relax, refresh, recharge. It’s really okay to take a break, ya’ll. #selfcare
This week, I’m focused on incorporating LOTS of fruits and veggies into my diet. I’m not even worried about macros, I just need to reset. So I’m making some delicious Peanut butter protein Acai bowls from Pumps and Iron for a snack. Check ’em out.
*Note: I definitely added the spinach, and here were my toppings: 1/4 cup Natures Path Coconut Chia Granola, 1/3 cup Strawberries, diced/sliced, 1/4 cup pineapple chunks.
