It’s January 4th. How are you holding up on your resolutions? I know it sounds silly to ask that question a mere 4 days into the New Year, but I’ve been reading studies on how few people keep up with their resolutions each year and it. is. absolutely. stunning!
Perhaps I am surprised because I have always been the type of person who finishes what they start on a regular basis, so it’s completely baffling to me when I don’t see the same characteristics in other people. But that just means that I probably need to be more tolerant. To each their own, right? 🙂
So far, I have mostly kicked ass at my resolutions, and I want to pat myself on the back. The hardest thing for me will be to remain positive in stressful situations. Or, let’s be honest, even non-stressful situations. I have been in such a negative space in my mind for so long, that it will definitely take some training to change my behavior — inside and out. I won’t lie, I did have one hiccup yesterday when I received irritating news on something that I’d like to resolve. It feels like it maybe will never end. However, after some consideration, I decided to look at it a bit differently. I can only control myself and my own actions. And I am currently stuck on someone else’s timeline. There’s nothing I can do to control the situation, and I need to accept that. This thought process helped me to accept the issue quicker than normal. Progress is good. Even small bits of progress.
Wednesday was my first day back in the office after the break, and I have been doing my affirmations daily, reading my You Are A Badass Every Day book, and have motivational calendars all around me. I have found in other places of my life, that when I surround myself with what I want, it makes it easier for me to stick to something. Manifest my own destiny. There are some big decisions on the horizon for my family and I that will require some courage and strength, so my main goal for January is to be my very. best. self. as I embark on new beginnings.
I know many of you have probably signed yourself up to do a Whole30 in January. It’s really a GREAT time to do it, because most of us probably need a break from the alcohol and caloric foods we’ve been munching on over the holidays. A Whole30 really helps reset our bodies and give them the attention they need. While I am not doing a strict Whole30, I am focusing on getting my diet back on track, keeping my workouts up, and getting my mind right.
